Victims, survivors of deadly Texas plane crash identified – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth
The NTSB has launched an investigation into a deadly plane crash in McKinney on Fridaythe same day that Texas DPS identified two of the crash victims.
According to the National Transportation Safety Board, preliminary information indicates the Cessna 414 took off from McKinney National Airport and landed upside down about a mile south of the airport.
The explosion hit a hillside in a concrete materials storage area.
NBC 5 has learned the pilot and two mechanics were on board when the plane crashed around 10:30 a.m. Thursday.
The pilot, 67-year-old Michael Lewis, was the father, grandfather and husband of former Forney Mayor Amanda Lewis.
He was also a pilot and, according to his son, he volunteered on nearly 150 missions to transport patients to medical treatment free of charge.
“He was an exceptional pilot,” said Benjamin Lewis. “He is the most incredible man I have ever met.”
Lewis was also CEO of Paluxy Oil and Gas.
After departing McKinney National Airport, flight radar showed the plane turning to the left before crashing.
Video footage from a witness shows workers on the construction site using hoses to extinguish the flames.
Texas DPS identified Gustavo Moreno, 53, of Royse City, as the second fatality. His biography lists him as a husband and father of five.
The sole survivor, who was flown to Parkland Hospital in critical condition, was identified by family members as Randy Williams, the father of a 2-year-old son.
According to his family, Williams is stable and “fighting hard and making progress.”
