Plano Commission Approves Major Redevelopment of Willow Bend Shopping Center – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

With concerns that the stores in Willow Bend would face a ugly and painfully slow decline Like the Valley View and Collin Creek malls, the Plano Planning & Zoning Commission has unanimously approved Centennial's plans to redevelop the mall in Dallas.

Although local residents were uncomfortable with the addition of 965 apartments to the complex, no citizens spoke out against Centennial's plans for the shopping center on the northwest corner of the Dallas North Tollway and West Park Boulevard during Tuesday night's three-hour meeting.

The multi-million and multi-year plans will now go to the Plano City Council in February.

Steven Levin, founder and CEO of Centennial, argued that by reducing the indoor retail space to make room for outdoor shopping, the addition of 965 apartments, an 18-story hotel and a seven-story office building would create a tax-generating asset comparable to The Domain, Austin's highly touted development.

“The Domain is one of the most successful projects in the country. It was a spectacular ground-up project and this lends itself to something similar and we hope to replicate it,” Levin said.

Centennial led a group to purchase the shopping center in Plano which were seized in May 2022.
