One dead in North Texas school bus crash – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth
One person has died and two others are in hospital after a multi-vehicle crash involving a school bus Wednesday afternoon.
According to the Collin County Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to a crash on the Long Bridge, a two-lane bridge over Lavon Lake that connects the towns of Lucas and Branch, around 3:45 p.m.
According to the sheriff's office, the crash involved a Princeton ISD school bus and at least two other vehicles. However, four vehicles were seen stopped at the crash site from Texas Sky Ranger, including the school bus, a van, a Jeep and a red Nissan sedan.
Deputies confirmed that at least one person was killed in the crash and another person was hospitalized. The condition of the injured person is unknown.
Princeton ISD told NBC 5 that nine high school students were on the bus at the time of the crash. The school district said the bus driver and all nine students were checked by paramedics and that no injuries were reported. The students were all put on another bus to be taken home.
No other injuries were reported, and officials have not said what led to the collisions. The sheriff's office said the Texas Department of Public Safety will take over the investigation into the crash.
The bridge will remain closed while the crash is cleared. Officials have not yet said when they expect the bridge to reopen to traffic.
The crash is the second fatal school bus crash in as many days. On Tuesday, a motorcyclist was killed when his bike crashed into the back of a Fort Worth ISD school bus to make a turn.
