North Texas UPS driver crashes after passing out from heat exhaustion, union says


A North Texas UPS driver was taken to the hospital after allegedly passing out while behind the wheel because of this HEAT and crashing.

Representative from Teamsters Local 767 say a delivery driver from Longview was asked to work outside McKinney building on Friday.

The driver experienced heat-related symptoms while driving and called for help.

The Teamsters union says the driver was asked to return to the McKinney building and passed out. The van was on Sam Rayburn in Anna when it left the road and crashed into trees near the highway.

The video shows the vehicle traveling at high speed and narrowly avoiding another vehicle before crashing.

Anna Police confirmed to FOX 4 that a medical incident had occurred and was the likely cause of the crash. An investigation into the incident is underway.

The driver was taken to hospital and released on Saturday.

The crash happened shortly before 19:25. The union says the driver had been working for six to seven hours.

“The company continues to place packages on people. This is the third incident at the McKinney building alone,” the Teamsters Union wrote.

Temperatures reached 102 degrees in Dallas-Fort Worth on Friday.

“We are aware of an incident involving our driver in McKinney, TX. We care deeply for his safety and well-being. We are working with authorities to investigate and question them,” UPS said in a statement for FOX 4.

UPS also sent information about the company's investment in heat safety protocols.

The company says they spend more than $409 million on safety training in the US and have added cooling equipment to vehicles and facilities. UPS also noted that it has specialized cooling equipment and access to ice and water.

last august, Delivery driver Christopher Begley died after a day of work in the heat.

The union says that during recent negotiations, UPS said the newly purchased vehicles would come with air conditioning, but at this point, the vast majority do not have it.
