New York Indian food chain The Kati Roll Company will open a Plano location
Similar to a gyro, kati rolls are skewered ingredients stuffed into a paratha bread and topped with chutneys and spices.
Kati Roll Companya well-known New Yorker Indian kitchen concept, is opening its first location in Plano this Saturday, marking its second location in DFW.
The Downtown Dallas location opened in the spring as the franchise's first kati roll joint location. The Roll Floor Company aims to bring floor rolls to people who may never have had them, according to a press release. According to one last article in Magazine Dthe only other place in Plano to get them might be the Desi District, just a few blocks away.
“When we brought the concept to Texas, we knew we wanted the first location in the heart of Dallas, but we always had the suburbs in mind,” says franchise owner Hebron Sher. “There is a large South Asian community within the Dallas metroplex, and we felt the love and excitement for the Plano location the moment the exterior sign went up on the building. We're excited to bring the familiar cuisine to fans of the brand, but also excited to introduce the residents of Plano to something that may be new to them!”
According to a press release, kati rolls are a popular street food in Kolkata, India. The rolls are made with grilled ingredients, stuffed into a buttered paratha bread and topped with chutneys and spices. New fans of the restaurant compare kati rolls to a gyro or Indian burrito.
Saturday's opening will feature $5 floor rolls all day for guests.
The restaurant was started in New York City in 2002 by Payal Saha, who moved there from Calcutta in the early 2000s. Now, the restaurant has four locations in Manhattan and two in London, with exclusive locations in Dallas and Plano.
Popular kati roll flavors include a chicken tikka roll, an aloo masala roll, a shami kabob roll, unda paneer roll or, to drink, lassi, an Indian-style yogurt smoothie made daily with homemade yogurt.
Kati Roll Company is located at 5588 State Highway 121 and will be open Monday through Thursday from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. and Friday through Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
