Kati Roll Company opens second location in Plano, Texas
The last franchise opened on August 24, 2024
Following the successful launch of its first location in Texas this spring, Kati Roll Company (TKRC) announced its continued expansion into North Texas. The New York-based restaurant opened its new Plano location on August 24 at 5588 State Hwy 121.
Kati Rolls, with “kati” meaning skewer in Bengali, are a beloved street food originating from Kolkata, India. These rolls contain skewered fillings such as meat and vegetables, wrapped in buttered paratha bread, garnished with chutney and spices. The chain uses halal meat, marinated fresh daily on site, to produce its lassi using homemade organic yogurt.
Plano location marks the second in North Texas. The first, which opened in April 2024, is located at 1322 Elm St, Dallas. With an area of 2200 square meters, this restaurant accommodates up to 50 people.
“When we brought the concept to Texas, we knew we wanted the first location in the heart of Dallas, but we always had the suburbs in mind,” franchise owner Hebron Sher said in an official statement. “There is a large South Asian community within the Dallas metroplex, and we felt the love and excitement for the Plano location the moment the exterior sign went up on the building. We're excited to bring the familiar cuisine to fans of the brand, but also excited to introduce the residents of Plano to something that may be new to them!”
The origin of TKRC dates back to Payal Saha's journey from Kolkata to New York City. Despite having no prior restaurant management experience, Saha's desire for authentic kati rolls led him to start the business. TKRC first opened its doors in 2002 in a quaint corner of Greenwich Village, New York City.
Since then, the company has expanded to several locations, including Manhattan, London and most recently, Dallas. In accordance with its model, TKRC branches are located in central areas of the city popular with office workers and they operate mainly during daylight hours.
“What sets TKRC apart is the quality of its ingredients including all halal meat, antibiotic and hormone free chicken, hand-ground spices and fresh produce,” the company further said. its website. “We marinate all our ingredients daily and never use prepackaged foods or sauces.”
