Collin County teens prepare for prom season – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

For a unique evening, only the brightest, most glittering and most unusual dresses are suitable for most teenagers.

But at a time in life that's already expensive, prom comes with a hefty price tag that can be hard to swallow for parents like Shaylon Scott.

“The idea of ​​paying for senior living, clothing, car, and college all at once is just overwhelming. So this is such a help. And I'm a single mom, so it's just me and my girls, so this is a blessing,” said Shaylon Scott.

On Saturday, Scott and her youngest daughter Loren were among those browsing racks of dresses in all shapes, colors and sizes during a prom dress sale at the Boys and Girls Club of Collin County in Plano.

“It was amazing to see the girls say yes to the dress and we are so excited to partner with Comerica Bank on this,” said CEO Shawn Wills.

Thanks to the help of Comerica and other partners like Project Beauty, Wills said the Boys and Girls Club extended today's invitation not only to its own members, but to the entire community.

The free event marked the end of Comerica's prom dress collection season, which this year collected 380 new and barely used formal dresses and accessories.

“To take that one expense off the parent's worry list, you know, having to find a dress, shoes and accessories, we're happy to do that,” Wills said.

This is especially true for a piece of clothing that you only wear once.

When the Scotts first arrived, Loren wasn’t sure she would find what she was looking for. But after coming for one thing, she left with the unexpected.

“It was supposed to be a pretty simple black dress, but when I saw the red one I thought, maybe I should try it on, just to see,” she said.

Mother and daughter agreed that this was the dress she had to find.

“It was absolutely meant for me,” Loren said.

To help the teens prepare for the big night, Project Beauty provided a goodie bag for everyone in attendance and a complete makeover for one lucky recipient.
